General Introduction to Galvanized Steel Grating
Galvanized steel grating, also known as galvanized bar grating, is a grid-like metal sheet made of mild steel flat bars and twisted square bars welded horizontally and vertically. The surface of galvanized steel grating is treated with special hot-dipped galvanization, which has stable chemical and physical properties and is not easily corroded by air oxidation and microorganisms.
There are 2 types of steel grating: hot-dip galvanized steel grating and electro-galvanized steel grating. Galvanized steel grating has strong impact resistance, strong corrosion resistance and heavy load-bearing capacity, beautiful and elegant, and has superior performance in municipal roadbed and steel platform construction projects. The extremely high cost performance is the reason why galvanized steel grating is widely used in the paving projects of new and old roadbed gutter roads.

Types of Galvanized Steel grating
There are 3 types of steel grating: hot-dip galvanized steel grating and Press-locked Galvanized steel grating and Welded Galvanized steel grating.
Hot-dip Galvanized Steel Grating
Hot-dip galvanized steel grating also known as hot-dip galvanizing, involves melting zinc ingots at high temperatures, putting in some auxiliary materials, and then dipping the structural metal parts into a galvanizing bath to attach a zinc layer to the metal parts. The advantage of hot-dip galvanizing is its strong anti-corrosion ability, good adhesion and hardness of the galvanized layer. The weight of the product increases after galvanizing, and the amount of zinc we often refer to is mainly for hot-dip galvanizing.
Press-locked Galvanized steel grating
Press-locked Galvanized steel grating is made of low carbon steel and stainless steel. It is a grid formed by welding or press-locking cross bars to bearing bars. The press-locked grating has the characteristics of high strength, light structure, high bearing capacity, anti-corrosion and so on.It is widely used in power plants, chemical plants, oil refineries, steel mills, machinery factories, shipyards, paper mills and other industries.
Welded Galvanized steel grating
Welded Galvanized steel grating is made of low carbon steel or stainless steel. It is widely used in construction, petroleum, chemical industry, power plant, sewage treatment plant, food processing plants and other industries. The surface of the Welded Galvanized steel grating is hot dip galvanized or electro-galvanized. The hot dip galvanized layer is thick and the electro-galvanized layer is thin. It has good corrosion resistance and anti-rust properties. Welded Galvanized steel grating is divided into two kinds of bearing bars: flat bar and I-bar. The distance between the two bearing bars is called pitch or pitch.

The Process Flow for Galvanized Steel Grating
Step 1: Pre-Treatment:
The surface of the steel gratings cleans the shot blasting or degreasing to remove rust, paint, oil, and other contaminants. Galvanized steel grating is placed in an acid bath to remove the mill scale. By using this process, a zinc-iron alloy forms on the surface of the gratings. Zinc-iron alloy has a lower melting point than steel, which is a barrier to prevent iron rusting.
Step 2:Pickling:
The purpose of pickling is to remove the oxide layer on the surface of the galvanized steel grating. This is done by immersing the gratings in an acid bath. The most commonly used acid for pickling is hydrochloric acid. Because hydrochloric acid helps to remove the oxide layer quickly, it is also known as a “pickling agent.”
Step 3:Fluxing:
Fluxing is a process that helps to remove impurities from the surface of the galvanized steel grating. The impurities are removed by passing a current through the gratings in an acidic solution. The most commonly used flux is zinc chloride. Zinc chloride provides a barrier against corrosion and helps to remove impurities quickly. For this cause, it is also known as a “fluxing agent”.
Step 4:Hot-Dip Galvanizing:
Hot-dip galvanizing is a method in which the gratings are dipped in a molten zinc bath. By using molten zinc bath in galvanized steel grating process, a zinc-iron alloy is formed on the surface of the gratings. That’s why hot-dip galvanizing is also known as “zinc-iron alloying.” Also, hot-dip galvanizing provides a barrier against corrosion.
Step 5:Cooling:
After hot-dip galvanizing, the gratings are cooled in air or water. The cooling process helps to solidify the zinc-iron alloy on the surface of the gratings. Galvanized steel grating that has been cooled in air is known as “air-cooled” grating. And galvanized steel grating that has been cooled in water is known as “water-cooled” grating.
Step 6:Passivation:
Passivation is the only process flow of galvanized steel grating that is not performed in all cases. Passivation is a process in which the gratings are dipped in an acidic solution. To achieve this process, the gratings must be made of stainless steel. The primary objective of passivation is to eliminate contaminants from the exterior of the gratings.
Step 7:Packaging(1 days)
To ensure that the products are not damaged during transport, we use high-quality packing materials.the packing of steel gratings requires special care and attention. Be sure to wrap each grate in a layer of plastic film, place them in a box or crate, and fill the gaps between the grates with packing material such as styrofoam peanuts or bubble wrap. Seal the box or crate with tape and label it with the contents and the date. These packing tips will help to ensure that your steel grates are protected from rust and corrosion during storage or transportation.

FAQs for Galvanized Steel Grating
Galvanized steel gratings are a type of steel grating that has been coated with zinc to protect it from corrosion. They are commonly used in outdoor applications such as walkways, platforms, and drainage covers.
There are a few factors to consider when deciding if galvanized steel gratings are the right choice for your project. First, you will need to consider the environment in which the gratings will be used. If they will be exposed to harsh weather conditions or chemicals, then galvanized steel is a good option. Second, you need to think about the weight of the gratings. If they will be used in a high traffic area, then you will want to choose a heavier duty grating. Third, you need to consider the overall cost of the project. Galvanized steel gratings are more expensive than other types of gratings, but they offer superior corrosion resistance.
Galvanized steel gratings offer superior corrosion resistance due to the zinc coating. They are also low maintenance and easy to clean. Additionally, galvanized steel gratings are recyclable and have a long lifespan.
One potential drawback of using galvanized steel gratings is that they can be slippery when wet. However, this can be alleviated by choosing a grating with a serrated or treaded surface. Additionally, galvanized steel gratings are more expensive than other types of gratings.
Galvanized steel gratings require little maintenance. You can clean them with soap and water or a mild detergent. If you need to remove tough stains, you can use a power washer. However, be sure to use a low pressure setting to avoid damaging the grating. Additionally, you should inspect the gratings regularly for any signs of damage or wear.
